Meaning
An auxiliary pneumatic component designed to increase the stroke speed of a pneumatic cylinder or actuator by venting exhaust air directly to the atmosphere optimizes system performance. Installing a quick exhaust valve bypasses the long return lines to the main control valve, reducing backpressure in the actuator chamber. This allows for rapid actuation of safety-critical valves during an emergency.
It is commonly mounted directly on the cylinder port to achieve the fastest possible response time. This configuration is standard in emergency shutdown systems where every fraction of a second matters.
Pneumatic Efficiency
The internal mechanism consists of a flexible diaphragm or shuttle that shifts under differential pressure. When air is supplied to the inlet, the diaphragm seals the exhaust port and allows air to flow into the actuator. When the inlet pressure drops, the diaphragm shifts to block the inlet and open the exhaust path to the atmosphere.
System Safety
Rapid valve closure is essential for isolating pipeline segments or shutting down hazardous processes. This fast action prevents the propagation of pressure surges and limits the release of hazardous fluids. In these systems, the valve’s reliability is crucial for overall plant protection.
Commercial Distribution
Manufacturers supply these valves in various materials, including brass and stainless steel, to suit different environmental conditions. Distributors must stock these components alongside pneumatic actuators to offer complete automation packages to industrial buyers.
