Meaning
Maintenance procedures involve the delivery of specialized lubricants or sealants into the sealing area of a valve through external fittings. A valve seat injection is typically used to restore a tight seal when the primary seat material has been damaged or worn. This process allows for the temporary repair of internal leaks while the system remains under pressure.
Sealant Delivery
High pressure pumps force the compound through internal channels to the interface between the seat and the closure member. During a valve seat injection, the sealant fills any scratches or pits in the metal surface to stop the flow of fluid across the seal.
Fitting Safety
Dedicated check valves and caps prevent the process fluid from escaping back through the injection port. If the hardware for valve seat injection is not maintained, it can become a potential leak path itself.
Operational Limit
While this method provides an immediate solution to leakage, it is generally considered a temporary measure rather than a permanent fix. Repeated valve seat injection can lead to the buildup of dried sealant, which may eventually interfere with the movement of the valve. The long term solution remains the physical replacement of the damaged internal components during a planned maintenance outage.
